Boy Solider
As many of you probably are well aware, Ishmael Beah was here at Emmens hall this past Tuesday night to present to BSU his book. The clock struck 7 as thousands of my fellow freshmen poured into the hall awaiting his words. As I sat there and listened to him speak, I couldn't help but ask myself, how can such a young man be so calm about what hes gone through. And how is it possible for him to be so relaxed as he explained to all of us students, who he had never seen before, his powerful story. I just think it takes great strength and courage to do everything hes gone through. I also found it rather entertaining as to how he could explain his story but still have comic relief throughout. The part about how he was asked to present his bank papers and report card and his response to the man was, "I hear a gun shot, I should probably get my bank papers and report card." That to me was hilarious compared to the tone of the rest of his speech. In all, I found the entire experience rather uplifting, and we are all very gifted to have seen such an amazing person speak. I'll remember it for the rest of my life.
